If you are registered with a Wakefield District GP practice and feel unwell when they are closed, you can get help from GP Care Wakefield: Evening and Weekend clinics.

GP Care Wakefield can also help you if you struggle to make routine daytime appointments with your practice nurse.

Appointments in GP Care Wakefield

Extra same-day and routine appointments are available locally with GP Care Wakefield. See a GP, nurse or other healthcare professional. To book a routine appointment with GP Care Wakefield, please contact your practice reception team. If you are unwell when your practice is closed and GP Care Wakefield is open, call your practice number to be automatically put through to GP Care. All appointments must be pre-booked as this is not a walk-in service.

Trinity Health Centre Refurbishment

One of our GP Care hubs is at Trinity Medical Centre. It is currently undergoing a major refurbishment which is not likely to be completed until early next year. This may have an impact upon accessing our services.

If you need to see the nurse, we know how hard it can be arranging daytime appointments that fit around work, school or other commitments.

Your practice can offer you an evening or weekend appointment at GP Care Wakefield if it suits you better, just mention it to your practice reception team.

The service is not available for routine matters such as repeat prescriptions.

Please remember you will need to bring your injections, dressings, or suture / clip removers to the appointment.

Is this service part of the NHS?

Yes, this is a NHS service provided by Conexus Healthcare which is a GP-led group made up of all GP practices in Wakefield District. A locally-led service for people across the Wakefield District.

How is the service staffed?

The service is staffed by clinical staff who work in the local area.

Will you have access to my health records?

Yes, clinical staff who work in our extended hours services can access your record if they need to in order to provide the safest care. For routine appointments, you will be asked by your practice team for consent to sharing your records if this isn’t already in place.

Why is my GP practice not running this service at their practice?

This is an additional service commissioned by Wakefield District Health & Care Partnership to complement existing GP services within the Wakefield District. By running the service from six central locations, using existing Wakefield District clinicians, we are able to provide this vital service sustainably for local people. By working as a network of GP practices, we can also offer clinical advice service, nurse and healthcare assistant appointments.

I prefer to see a female doctor, can I request this?

Yes, you can request this when you call, however, this cannot be guaranteed.

Will you tell my GP practice that I've used your service

Yes, a summary of your consultation, any prescribed medication or advice given will be sent to your GP.

How do I provide feedback or make a complaint?

Please get in touch with clinical services team. By knowing about the problem, we can try our best to solve it straightaway for you.

How do I cancel an appointment?

If you need to cancel your appointment, please call your GP practice number as usual and speak to the reception team. If your number diverts to GP Care Wakefield, ask the GP Care team to cancel it.

Our evening and weekend clinics are available by appointment-only. If you are asked to come in for a face-to-face appointment, this will be at Trinity Medical Centre, Northgate Surgery, Elizabeth Court Surgery, Ossett Surgery, Church View Health Centre or Kings Medical Practice.
